Ruby G. Schrecengost, 85, of Flandreau, SD, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at her home at Riverview Apartments.
Ruby Gail Kough was born March 3, 1934 at home in Blanco, PA, to James J. and Iva Kough. She attended school at Shannock Valley School through part of her sophomore year. Ruby married Leslie J. Schrecengost on March 3, 1951 in Dayton, PA. They farmed with Leslie’s dad in Pennsylvania until Leslie went into the service. In 1960 they moved to Garretson and farmed near Baltic for two years. They moved to Trent in 1965 and Ruby worked at the Dell Rapids Hospital for 10 years as a nurse’s aide. In 1976 they moved to their Flandreau farm where Ruby lived until 2014. She was secretary for the National Hereford Hog Record Association from 1976 – 2008. Ruby worked for 26 years at Riverview Manor as a CNA. Her husband preceded her in death December 8, 2013. Ruby crocheted blankets and sweaters starting with booties for babies at the hospital and made blankets for all the babies. Ruby enjoyed gardening, canning, and her flowers.
Ruby is survived by two children: Cindy (Jim) Meisenheimer, Elkton, SD and Marlin (Deb) Schrecengost, Flandreau; four grandchildren: Jessica (Mike) Jensen, Elkto,; Jennifer (Jess) Doyle, Custer, Peggy (Ryan) Schuetz, Arvada, CO and Jeremy (Carrie) Schrecengost, Flandreau; 12 great grandchildren: Sophia, Christian, Michaela, Morgan, Kaylee, Justin, Claire, Henry, Benjamin, Grace, Liam and Carleigh; one great-great grandson: Declan; and two sisters: Alma (Ron) Grafton, Hadley, PA and Betty (Lee) Weller, Camp Hill, PA.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Don Kough.
Funeral service was held Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with burial in Union Cemetery.
